What is Functional Fitness?

Functional fitness is all about training your body for everyday activities, making daily motion easier and safer. It’s like preparing for life’s adventures, whether you’re carrying groceries, picking up small children, walking in nature, or even fighting off sharks (you never know!).


In functional fitness, we prioritize natural movements like squats, pull-ups, and free weights over machine-based exercises. We want to replicate real-world scenarios, like lifting objects from the floor or raising them overhead. Think of it as becoming “antifragile” – physically ready to handle life’s chaos!


Remember, variety is the spice of life, so mix in compound exercises that engage multiple muscle groups. Balance, endurance, and flexibility are the icing on the functional fitness cake!

A Little about me

I want to introduce myself as well as my vision and plans for Iron Strength. I am a Physical Therapist Assistant with 11+ years of experience in an outpatient clinic in Newton. I treat many diverse patient diagnosis' of all ages. I specialize in athletes, women's health, and functional movement patterns and strength for all AGES! "Stronger People are Harder To Kill!" I've coached CrossFit with my level 1 Certification as well as managed several gyms in my past. I have always loved helping people live better quality lives and realizing their potential to feel great and be comfortable in their skin. I've realized the need to bridge the gap between Therapy and Fitness and be able to address a person's full health by moving often and well, as well as decreasing inflammation with better nutrition and lifestyle changes.

I want to provide my community with the ability to have access to a functional fitness facility at their convenience and to offer specialized training to those who want more!
